Williams Landing Town Centre gets the green light
In the News - Victoria
WYNDHAM City Councillors last week voted unanimously to approve the Williams Landing Town Centre (WLTC) Development Plan.
The Williams Landing development, being undertaken by Cedar Woods, is a Priority Development Zone and the newly approved town centre is a designated Major Activity Centre.
The council's approval spans the 50-hectare WLTC site and establishes the urban design and future land uses in the town centre.
Patrick Archer, Victorian Developments Manager at Cedar Woods, said that the approval takes Cedar Woods' vision for the town centre as a high quality mixed-use, urban centre one step closer to delivery and confirms the council's endorsement of the project.
"The role of the Williams Landing town centre is intended to be that of a key urban centre such as Dandenong, Frankston or Box Hill," Mr Archer said.
"Intended land uses include retail, commercial office space, medical and high density residential.
"Williams Landing Town Centre will grow and evolve over several decades with development densities increasing over time."
The development plan will pave the way for the approval and development of all primary roads in Williams Landing including Palmers Road, Old Geelong Road and Main Street.
The Victorian Government is investing approximately $100 million in infrastructure at Williams Landing, including the construction of Palmers Road freeway interchange and Williams Landing train station, which is due to open in late 2012.
Cedar Woods is anticipating approval of the Williams Landing Shopping Centre and new Master's home improvements store in light of the town centre approval.
The first stage of the Williams Landing Shopping Centre will be a sub-regional centre of approximately 30,000 square metres including a 4,200 square metre Woolworths Supermarket and a 7,700 square metre Big W store.
A 13,500sqm Masters home improvements store is anticipated to be one of the first to be opened by Woolworths in Melbourne.
When complete, Williams Landing will incorporate a town centre, train station, freeway interchange and four residential neighbourhoods comprising 2,500 homes. The project has 15 hectares of landscaped public open space, with walking paths and bike trails that link to the adjacent 24 kilometre Federation Bike Trail. |
