2010 Gemtree Vineyards 'Obsidian' Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia
Wine Notes
Tasting note: The wine spends 3 years in French oak, and represents only 1% of the total Gemtree shiraz production. Dense crimson-purple; the black cherry, blackberry licorice and dark chocolate fruit flavours are so rich and intense that they have absorbed the oak into a velvety whole. While the wine is to full-bodied to be described as elegant, it is particularly well-balanced. Had it been sealed with a screwcap, its future would have been 50+ years. The price is relatively modest for a wine of this lineage. (10-Feb-2014) [James Halliday]
