Baby很小時是不會自己睡的。以前看書說通常小baby需要大概20分鐘才能deep sleep。一般由light sleep轉入deep sleep小寶寶會很容易stir(醒)的,所以你的寶寶會睡十多分鍾便醒。最好是不要抱著哄睡,而是先放baby上小床,然後有節奏地拍拍(大概1 beat per second - this is similar to mummys heart beat), 另外一邊發出shhhh的聲音(similar to the sound of mummys blood circulation when baby was still inside mummy)。 一直至baby睡著。就算baby看似睡著了也最好再拍他20分鐘和shhhh才離開他的,以確定小寶寶已熟睡。轉入deep sleep後通常都會看得出他的呼吸節奏steady了,這時他起碼可以睡一至兩個cycle,大概一至二小時。最重要不要抱着哄睡覺,要不然他會每次stir都會醒都會要人抱的。分別是抱抱是大人幫小孩睡覺,但拍拍和shhhh是recreate an environment similar to inside mummy's tummy to make him/her feel relax enough to fall asleep。我自己試過,2天成功。第一次午睡時間拍了45min ,一直哭沒有睡,書上說if there is no success for 45 min, then give up, bring the baby to a different room for a change of scene, play for a little while and try again later. It got better with each nap. By the end of the first day, i only needed to pat my baby for 25 min and she could sleep until the next feed. By the end of the first week, i only needed to pat her for 5 min each time. After a few weeks, i no longer needed to pat her at all, i just needed to put her in her cot, and she would not even cry and would fall asleep by herself until the next feed. By the way, once you see that she has moved from light to deep asleep (steady slow breathing, no eye movement), you should slowly stop the shhh sound, and then the patting, or the other way round, as it's diff from baby to baby. I tried this when my baby was 6 weeks old. I had no help at home at that time (grandparents in the oversea, husband on business trip for 2 months) so i was really grateful that this method worked for me. I hope you will find it helpful too!
