12 Aug : Ferragosto 2012 (Five Dock )
Ferragosto will be celebrating its 15th year on Sunday, 12 August 2012 on Great North Road, Five Dock from 10am to 4pm.
Ferragosto is the City of Canada Bay’s largest and most popular community festival attracting over 50,000 people. It has grown in the 15 years since its inception from a local celebration of the Italian heritage of Five Dock, to a premier event in the social calendar of the inner west of Sydney.
Ferragosto is named after an annual Italian holiday celebrated in August to honour the ascension of the Virgin Mary to Heaven.
The festival features three stages, entertaining audiences with Italian inspired music and dancing. Headlining the Main Stage is internationally acclaimed singer Tony Pantano who will perform a combination of rock, pop, Latin, R&B, contemporary and opera. The Kids' Stage will keep the little ones entertained with a line up of dancers, Taekwondo demonstrations, music and the Italian favourite Pinocchio and Gepetto, while the Home Grown Stage features local dancers and musicians.
Be inspired and learn how to prepare Italian dishes from local chefs at FerraKitchen and soak up the ambience and enjoy wine tasting at FerraPiazza.
Ferragosto will also feature a classic Alfa Romeo car display, animal farm, free rides, an ice cream eating competition (see below for more details) and over 100 market stalls

19 Aug: Kindy Fete
Sunday, 19 August 2012, 10:00AM
This is the big one. Once a year PTK holds its fete. Apart from being the largest fund raising event of the year, contributing towards building and improvements within the kindy, it is a whole lot of fun.
There is plenty to do for all the family, with the usual huge jumping castle, a mobile animal farm, chocolate wheel and many other events.
Dont leave without sampling the barbeque for lunch, or purchasing a cake or other goodies from the cake stall. But be quick, the past years goodies stall has sold out well before lunchtime.

Description:
At this event you can get up close and personal with Australian native animals with great hands-on shows. There are children’s activities about wildlife and pets. There are information stalls so you can find out about wildlife living around us, how to create wildlife friendly gardens, or help in local bushland and how to be involved in caring for wildlife. You can find out about wildlife that will help you in the vegetable garden too, and how to reduce the impact of those that help themselves.
For pet owners there are stalls about pet care and how you and your pets can live safely around wildlife. This year there are free dog obedience and hopefully there will be some agility demonstrations and activities too. So bring your pup or dog along on a lead. |
