Look for GP, ask him to write a referral letter to see specialist: Dr Howard Tang (Glen Iris: Tel 9909 4180). He's a good doctor, worth to see him. My friend has gone through him for many years. Definitely, there always will have out of pocket no matter where you go, especially for seeing specialist.
The medicine was very expensive. If you have medicare, then it's so much cheaper than if you go back Asian country. I have seen my friend's medicine bottle, the price label said $803 for 2 boxes (for 2 months). However, he's a local resident and this medicine is under PPS, so that he only paid for $34.20.
If you are overseas student, don't know whether you can get back partial reimbursements from your private health fund.
I remembered my parents came here 7 years ago for temporarily stay. I bought them top cover private health insurace, I could get 85% reimbursements of medicine purchased.
I believed the health system here is better than China a lot.
