PC manufacturers search for new markets
Personal computer manufacturers are currently searching for new ways to resurrect a struggling industry. According to the Boston Globe, market saturation, innovative new gadgets and general economic anxiety are keeping customers from making new PC purchases.
Personal computers are still at the digital core of most homes and businesses. But one unfortunate side effect of the PC's past success is that manufacturers are having difficulty finding novel ways to market a well-established product. Consumers are more likely to spend money on innovative new gadgets than updates to their current PC, according to the the news source.
Recent market research reports from both International Data Corporation and Gartner suggest that second quarter PC shipments grew at approximately 2.5 percent, short of the already reduced expectations.
According to the news outlet, Intel CEO Paul Otellini is not particularly optimistic about American and European market prospects. Instead, he sees Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa and Turkey as emerging frontiers for PC sales. Each country is expected to experience double-digit growth in the next few years.
Capable manufacturers may also want to focus on introducing or improving tablet offerings. Once considered a fad, the technology is now a legitimate force in professional and personal settings. |
