USA Airfreight Recovery Places Pressure on Air Capacity
The USA Air Freight market recovery along with ocean freight congestion challenges has created an unexpected increase in volumes not seen in recent times. This surge in demand has placed Airlines, airport ground handlers, trucking companies and warehouses facilities under increasing pressure resulting with delays across the supply chain.
Airline capacity development from the USA to Australia has been flat since Q3 2020, with a heavy reliance on passenger cargo planes offering reduced tonnage uplift. Increased demand for airfreight has forced some Airlines to refrain from accepting ad hoc space bookings, allowing them to clear existing backlogs.
DHL Global Forwarding USA has protected blocked space capacity in place from major gateways to service our Australian customers. The continued upsurge in air cargo volumes and sea to air shipment conversions, will continue to add pressure on existing airfreight capacity to Australia and cause possible delays.
