下面这首诗选译自《牛奶与蜂蜜》：

我不懂平衡的生活是什么样子

当我伤心的时候

我不是哭泣，我是泪如涌泉

当我开心的时候

我不是微笑，我是满脸灿烂

当我生气的时候

我不是叫嚷，我是七窍生烟

情绪极端

也有一个好处

那就是当我爱上谁的时候

我会推动他进步向前

但是，情绪极端

也许

说不上有什么好处

因为我爱的人总会离开我

你应该看到我

心碎时的样子

我不是悲伤

我是肝肠寸断。

原诗如下：

i don’t know what living a balanced life feels like
when i am sad
i don’t cry i pour
when i am happy
i don’t smile i glow
when i am angry
i don’t yell i burn
the good thing about
feeling in extremes
is when i love
i give them wings
but perhaps
that isn't
such a good thing
cause they always
tend to leave and
you should see me
when my heart is broken
i don't grieve

you have to love the parts of her
that aren't easy to love
and the parts of her that others
and even herself have struggled to love
你得爱她
包括那些不容易爱上的部分
