HILLS DISTRICT TENNIS COACHING
Location: Bella Vista Courts, Cnr Westwood Way & Bella Vista Dr, Bella Vista (Court #1 or #2).
What to bring: Wear comfortable sports clothing, sports shoes, hat, drink bottle and sunscreen. All tennis racquets and equipment are provided but you are welcome to bring your own.
Please note the following is only an example and will varying from lesson to lesson and from group to group depending on the level of the group.
Tennis Intro and Warm-up (15mins total)
1. Group welcome and individual greetings.
2. Brief introduction to tennis.
3. Stretching exercises.
4. Warm-up with light jog around tennis court 2 laps.
Speed/fitness and flexibility exercises (15mins total)
1. Run from baseline to touch net and back to baseline x2.
2. In rows, skip from side-side from right sideline to left sideline and back.
3. Move 3 tennis balls individually from inner sideline to the other.
4. Weave in and around cones.
5. Weave completely around each individual cone and to the next.
Drinks break/Rest (5mins total)
Hand-eye coordination/Gross motor skills exercises (5mins total)
1. Using racquet bounce a tennis ball on the strings as many times as possible.
2. Place a tennis ball on the strings of the tennis racquet and run/walk without dropping it.
3. Pushing a tennis ball along the ground with the tennis racquet.
Introduction to basic tennis strokes/techniques (15 mins total)
1. Correct tennis grip.
2. Correct feet position for tennis stroke.
3. Fundamentals of the forehand stroke.
4. Fundamentals of the backhand stroke.
5. Fundamentals of the forehand/backhand volley and overhead smash.
6. Introduction to advanced strokes such as the lob, slice backhand and topsin forehand/backhand.
7. Fundamentals of the serve.
Free play time (5mins total)
Other tennis related (Advanced topics covered in later courses)
1. Rules of tennis including scoring.
2. Differences between singles and doubles matches.
3. On court etiquette and sportsmanship.
4. In match strategies.
5. Importance and difference of tennis equipment (racquets/strings/shoes).
6. Safety/Nutrition.
Pack up /Cool down and end of class/training session.
