Barcaldine coach, Geoff Rafter, has had to improvise training for his squad as demonstrated in the photo. Five members are competing at the Swimming Queensland Sprint meet on the 8 and 9 February.
The Barcaldine pool has already been closed for almost 4 weeks with seemingly no urgency to replace the pump and the club’s own “Outback Oasis” carnival is the week after the Swimming Queensland Sprints.
Geoff, Kim and others are doing their best to keep swimmers fit.
Non-refundable airfares have been paid so that swimmers, the coach and parents are able to attend the event in Brisbane.
In all this time, these swimmers with the support of their coaches and parents have also driven to Blackall twice a week, to use the town’s pool. This is a return trip of 210 kilometres.
We wish these dedicated swimmers and the coaches all the very best at the Championships event. |
