I dont follow u
i mean it was taught in high school in China that when you say "ask somebody to" then "do" something not "doing" something.
So it would be 'To ask him to stop'.
Following 'stop' there are two expressions: 1. stop doing A= just mean discontinue whatever he is doing (A). 2. stop to do A = stop whatever he is doing so he can start doing A. e.g. He stopped to play cards = He ceased doing whatever he was doing, and then he played cards. Anyway, it should be "To ask him to stop playing cards". hope this does not confuse you.
