I am not a recruiter and am speaking based on my candidate experience.
Typically a company has three ways of using recruiters
* Do not use recruiters at all: Usually for graduates
* Use lots and lots of recruiters: Typically this would be some key position hire. If the company receives the same CV from multiple recruiters, the first one wins.
* Use selected group of recruiters: This is the most common situation. Recruiters tend to form long term relationship with the companies. And companies can get certain discount when selecting certain recruiters as preferred recruiters. Another situation is that hiring manager is placed by one particular recruiter, so this recruiter will get higher preference.
For candidates, you want to deal with two types of recruiters:
1. Hiring manager is placed by this recruiter
2. The recruiter has placed lots of candidates to the firm before
I think everyone can see the obvious reasons why you like these two kinds of recruiters
In Sydney, there are thousands of recruiting firm. Many recruiters are simply not capable or not qualified. Some recruiters just want to collect your CV. So don't easily give your CV when a recruiter called you!!!
