Have we become Australianised?
I read the news only a couple of days ago – that our Prime Minister, JuliaGillard, was “attacked” by having a sandwich thrown at her while she visited a primary school in the ACT. This was the second time Ms Gillard had such an
incident; the first time occurred in a state high school in QLD.
I don’t want to comment further on this incident, but what I do want to do is comment on the feedback from some of the Chinese community forum. One enthusiastic member opened a voting on this topic, to receive people’s opinions about this incident.
Our Prime Minister obviously doesn’t have a good reputation within this forum, but what interested me the most were the opinions about the student's behaviour of “hurling things at people”. Within the poll, 75% of the users agreed with the student’s behaviour and had said that “the Prime Minister deserved it”, however only 5% of users disagreed and stated that “students should show more respect for the Prime Minister”. One of the members even said that if his son as did it, then he would’ve rewarded him.
The parents in this forum have now learned what a democracy is, for sure. We’ve learned how to bravely express ourselves by all means. If I don't like someone, easy, throw stuff at them, and the consequence – parents will reward me.
What kind of hatred is that? Now I understand why there are so many adults that are afraid of our teenagers. If you dare to block my way, well, you will be attacked with a sandwich, stick, knife or even a bomb.
Our parents don’t need to worry anymore about whether or not our kids will become Australianised. YOU’re already thinking too main stream for that.
YOU needn’t do the right thing, YOU needn’t do it in the right way, YOU only need do whatever YOU think is right, and then your kids will be one of them for sure.
Good Manners? Appropriate Behaviour? Nobody cares. |
