My colleague's sick leave email:
I could take Codral and Soldier On, but it isn't working for me.
=====
We cannot understand or understand well this statement if we don't know about this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codral
Codral is a brand name of cold and flu medication manufactured by Johnson & Johnson and sold primarily in Australia & New Zealand. Codral is the highest-selling cold and flu medication in Australia.
......
Codral's slogan Soldier On is an enduring feature of its advertisements, but as the medication allows cold sufferers to mask their symptoms, it is also associated with presenteeism, in the sense of showing up to work with a contagious illness, instead of taking sick leave.
So as we all agree, language learning is more a culture thing. Although I don't quite like the hilarious advertisement.
