政府的Graduate Program面試該如何準備？-更新assessment details

找工作這麼久，終於接到去interview的電話了，而且是WA Department of Treasury and Finance 2012 Graduate Program的面試，心裡那個激動呀……當時還故作鎮定的問給我打電話的MM，我同時申請了auditor 和 accountant的 Graduate Program，不知道找我去面試的是哪個呢？MM很為難的說，我們這裡是Department of Treasury and Finance，不知道我這樣講對你是否有幫助……後來我回家一看，招accountant的就是這個DTF，招auditor的那個，叫做OFFICE OF THE AUDITOR GENERAL

我周圍的朋友也有幾個參加過這種面試，普遍反映都是難難難，說考試的題目，根本就不是普通畢業生能做出來的，小組討論的時候也說不過local學生，所以基本上就是希望渺茫 但是我還是想好好準備一下，既然有難得的機會去面試，總要爭取爭取的。

ASSESSMENT DETAILS

Individual Assessment – evaluating your oral & interpersonal skills, and conceptual & analytical skills

        You will be shown to a vacant room, and be given 20 minutes to develop and answer questions and complete a grammar and spelling assessment.
        You will have to answer three questions; two compulsory and one question of which you will select from a list.  A pen and paper will be supplied.
        You will be asked to read a short document (no more than ¾ of a page) and correct any spelling or grammatical errors. This assessment will measure your written communication skills.
        It is up to you how you manage these tasks in the 20 minutes allocated
        At the end of 20 minutes you will be invited to the main interview room, and present your answers to the selection panel. You will be given 10 minutes to present your answers to the panel.
        The panel may ask you questions about your answer or clarify any points regarding your application.
        There will be a panel of up to 5 members.
        At the end of this assessment you will be asked to re-join other applicants and previous graduates for coffee/tea in the conference room.  You will be asked to maintain confidentiality and not discuss the individual assessment process or questions asked with other applicants when you return to the conference room.

Group Assessment – evaluating your oral& interpersonal skills, ability to work as a member of a team, initiative, conceptual and analytical skills.

        In a group of up to 5, you will select a question and develop a response.  
        The group will have 20 minutes to develop an answer, and will have ten minutes to present a response. If two groups select the same question to answer, the first group that settled on the question will proceed and the other group will need to select a different question.
        You will be advised on the day which group you have been allocated to.
        Selection panel members will be assessing how individuals participate in the group work and the final presentation.
        Our organisation values diversity, in backgrounds, learning and communication styles and personalities. While it is important to do your best, it is more important that you be yourself.

不是牛人，说说个人感觉吧，仅供参考：

1. 题目做不出来不要紧的。你做不出来，别人也一样，只要你比别人好一点点就行了。我估计你将要做的题目和专业还是有一定关系的，所以还好。
  像我前几次做的GP网上测试，都是IQ测试那种题目，时间限制还很紧，我人脑袋不大灵光，基本没几道会做的。最后还是过了几次，所以我后来想大概其实大家都差不多吧。所以后来我做这种题目就不紧张了，做不完就做不完，能做的好好做。

2. 政府面试还是很正式的，要严格按照STAR来准备，因为他们按照这个评分的。用语稍微正式些也会有优势（咬文嚼字的像may or may not be什么的），因为应聘者一般喜欢和自己相似的人。

3. 很奇怪你怎么会有小组讨论，一般政府GP没有这项的，你确定是小组讨论吗？Panel Interview倒是有可能。如果是小组讨论，那没法准备的，而且有一定运气因素，能说多少就说多少吧，也不要怕说错。个人感觉说话响亮会比较有优势。

多谢多谢！不过请问STAR是什么？

我也不知道有没有小组讨论，还是很多年前一个朋友跟我说，她参加了一个招毕业生的面试，结果有group assignment，大家就讨论，然后做presentation什么的……也许我记错了，她参加的是commercial的面试？

我最近听说的一个朋友参加的ATO的考试，那些题目啊，都是很特别的case study，对某一种情况做具体分析，这不是为难毕业生嘛……

不一定的，好像只有国家政府的才需要吧？像这种州政府以及区政府的好像pr就可以了。

剛才收到email確認面試時間和細節了，果然是有小組討論的……
仔細看了一下，先是20分鐘回答3道題，加上一個短文改錯。然後是20分鐘小組討論，加上10分鐘的陳述答案。
我想作為畢業生，可能對於專業不會要求很高，更看重的是個人能力，因為據我所知所有專業的畢業生都肯依申請這種graduate program，然而如果assessment側重點是oral & interpersonal skills的話，中國人真是不佔優勢的……

另外referee report也是頭疼，需要referee從Research Skills，Written communication skills，Conceptual and analytical skills， Initiative，Oral and interpersonal skills，Ability to work as a member of a team這幾個封面作出具體評價，好嚴格啊……我還沒想好讓誰給我寫呢～～～～

1. 关于referee report的事情我不是很清楚，抱歉。

2. 一般来说服务性行业会比较重视intepersonal skills，你这个工作还是比较technical。到AC这阶段你英语肯定没问题了，在panel面前大方一点，慢慢讲，讲清楚，思路清晰，就可以了。小组活动的时候稍微活跃一点，把注意力放在解决手头的问题上，有想法随口就说出来，但不要想着show off, 就不会紧张了。我觉得我们很多人好像有点过分担心口语，其实不要紧的，我看到很多中国同学英语都相当好的，你就假装英语是母语就OK了。

3. Case study这种东西，不要想得太难。我记得我刚来澳洲的时候也是见那些case study啊open questions啊什么的特别害怕，其实都是唬人的，这种题目没标准答案，想到什么说什么，只要你道理说得通，就可以了。

4. STAR是指：situation, task, action, result. 这四个部分就好像是你essay的四个heading一样，按照这个结构组织答案。

5. 政府部门对语言的准确性要求比较高，撰写文件都要使用正式用语，你如果英语语法学得好的话，应该是没问题的。

6. 不要怕，政府部门的好处是：你看他们的interview requirements都写得那么详细，评选过程也比较公平是based on merits，所以不必担心歧视啊什么的。我之前去的几家for profit，去之前什么都不知道，都是去了以后临场发挥。

我看到的關鍵詞是：大方，思路清晰，活跃，语言准确以及situation, task, action, result.
