Ya I think I've met this guy on the street a few times and we actually had a quick chat once.

http://www.youtube.com/v/y1qU2nQ-1gY

1m46s, he's apparently not saying "ospital", if you mean hi ...

hi bu and astina

i understand the reason why you guys reject the fact of the dropped h-sound phenomenon. it takes time for ppl to accept things that they havent seen before, thats that, quite normal.

however in real situation it's very common that the aussie accent drops h-sound frequently,  especially in the case of colloquial form. the clip u posted here showing john himself was pronouncing H-ospital, cos that was a formal speaking. that is why u hear him pronouncing H sound. in this case i too will pronounce the H sound.

the story i knew the dropped H sound is only told by my australia lecturer, a native speaker, who told me this is one of the aussie accent features, which was perceived numerous times in my own perceptions later.

"let him go", in colloquial form "letim go"
he's in the hospital -> hes in the ospital
come here -> come ere

me and my friends drop the H sound all the time without any comprehending issues and so with other locals. hence i don really think it does not exist.

here i got two quick references for you guys to know tis bit more
1.
"From 1884–85:

The children drop their h’s without correction, and in some cases the teachers set them the example. From the Cockney and Cornish the disease has spread to the Scotch and Irish. We are in a fair way of becoming a nation without an h in our vocabulary…There are other weak points in Victorian pronunciation; but this, I think, is the worst.[25]"

8. Towards a History of the Australian Accent
http://epress.anu.edu.au/tal/mobile_devices/ch08.html

2.
"Australian English lacks some innovations in Cockney since the settling of Australia, such as the use of a glottal stop in many places where a /t/ would be found, th-fronting, and h-dropping."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_English_phonology

the dropped H sound is only a fact. a fact cant b disproved by preference and/or reasoning.

Didn't I write in English? Did i deny it or did I say it exists but it's unfair to say all Aussies talk like that? Did I somehow convey this message wrong, or you only understand binary?

plus, who is bu? May I call you ia now?

"it takes time for ppl to accept things that they havent seen before, thats that, quite normal. "

Oh, so I haven't seen, or to be precise, "heard", the dropped h before? Do i know you? Do you know me? Yeah right a "native speaker" told you this. How enlightening. Apparently I lived in a shoebox for the last 12 years and all the locals I talked to are fictional.

when u say only one of the types of aussie accentsmay not pronounce H sound, i offered u two references to confirm ur uncertainty.

the australian way of conversation is to add value, not to bring in personal stuff which is irrelevant to the topic. why should i know ur duration of staying in australia and who u r with?

sory to offend u by typing a short form of ur id. my bad :)
and yes u can call me ia, or whatever u like, its up 2 u. why should i care?

You should care because there is such a thing called manner. And manner says you call other people the name they tell you to call them as, not to make up your own. I guess the "native speaker" you know didn't tell you this? What a bummer.

To prove not *ALL* Aussie native speakers eat that H, which you still don't seem to understand, I provided you an battalion of well know Australians, whose speeches can be found easily all over the places, including the one old gentleman that you claimed to be a H eater, but is actually not. I appreciate your seemingly authoritative links, however there is another thing called logic, and logic says:

To prove something do exist, you only need to produce one proven example of it.

To prove something does not exist is not logically possible.

So I proved your statement wrong by introducing a video, from Bonsai's official YT channel, and he produced that "h" when saying "hospital". So logically, I've proven that H is still live and kicking in spoken Australian. Done, case made, clean cut. What more is to argue about here exactly?

Come on, we all know this is no longer about Australian accent, it is about your self-concept and self-esteem.
Talking about manner, what happened to your manners? Who started it first? Do you have to be so aggressive?

What you think does not equal to what everyone knows or thinks. Talk for yourself is a good start to get manners right.

Actually, allow me to answer you why I gets aggressive. I was reacting to this provoking line in #32:

"i understand the reason why you guys reject the fact of the dropped h-sound phenomenon. it takes time for ppl to accept things that they havent seen before, thats that, quite normal. "

In case you don't get it, in English this is to call people idiots.

Being nasty in a seemingly polite way is neither new or fancy, and is still down right nasty. I've seen plenty, I deal with it everyday at work, and I don't suffer fools. I guess this also answers your question "Who started it first". Well you seem to be too busy hi-fiving with your pal there and didn't get it? I wish you were.

hehe bro, maybe we should just leave him out.

he probably never got the idea that in australia conversation is not necessary to be a debate; except competition, cooperation is also an essential type of relationship with other ppl, even he claimed hes been in australia for 12 years, he still looks like just out of china, full of the fighting spirit from his original social class:)

i don understand why the action that i stated a learning fact can be explained that ur an idiot? how come u can explain ppl's words in whatever way u wish?

btw the unbeatable logic u claimed earlier has a serious flaw. think about it harder, u will know where it is.

i v seen ur english competence, reasoning and self controlling capabilities, and of course ur education and manners. if i have knwon these of yours earlier and that ur that sensitive and fragile, i wouldnt even bother replying ur posts.
