For those of you who are interested in flashing your E5186s-61a to remove the annoying Optus restriction (or other ISP restrictions) then here's how you can do it:
Note: My device is an E5186s-61a, hardware version CL2E5175HM and was running software version 21.306.01.00.74.
1. Connect a computer to the router via Ethernet (I inserted into LAN1)
2. Disable all firewalls on the computer
3. Set a static IP address of 192.168.8.100/24, gateway 192.168.8.1, no DNS
4. Download and install WinRAR
5. Download and run "multicast_upgrade_tool.exe" (SHA-256 = 6224FE8FB0EC628A29ADE1D7D5FB2DB5183BFD43486037D0CDF8C363E8ED8ECA)
6. Download firmware version "BV7R2C0update_21.306.01.00.00.gz.bin" (SHA-256 = 849632E4339ED74A8A3B7C4A463BB4AA35294CC6C58D162040EB09A3C143DB3B)
7. Put the router into upgrade mode by powering off, holding the WIFI + WPS buttons down together, powering on and release the WIFI button as soon as you see the WIFI light flash on - then let go of the WPS button any time.
8. When in upgrade mode, browse to the firmware file and start the upgrade process. Give it about 10 minutes and allow for it to show at least 10 in the "Package file send time" - also make sure the WIFI light is blinking slowly - click stop to stop sending the firmware update.
9. Power cycle the router and you should now be on OEM firmware. :) |
