Undergraduate Certificate in Coastal Systems and Water Resources
This course is designed to provide essential skills in the modelling, assessment and management of water resources, river and coastal systems. This course is a pathway to further study to become a professional engineer.
Units of study
AGR00215 - Water and Catchment Management
Introduces students to many of the issues associated with the management of water resources with a focus on issues relating to ground and surface water. The unit draws on the sciences of hydrology, climatology, chemistry, biology, aquatic ecology and soil processes.
GLY82001 – Hydrogeology
Explores the science and management of groundwater systems by extending and applying knowledge of hydrology, geology and chemistry. Students will develop an advanced conceptual understanding, and skills in field investigation, laboratory analysis and computer modelling, of groundwater systems. Students will also learn to evaluate natural and anthropogenic impacts on groundwater sustainability, including impacts of climate change, and propose suitable management strategies.
ENG30012 - Water and Wastewater Engineering
Teaches students the principles and processes involved in the removal of contaminants from water. The unit covers physical, chemical, and biological treatment principles, and the application of these principles to the design of functioning water treatment plants.
GLY73001 - Coastal and Fluvial Hydrodynamics
Develops a detailed technical knowledge of the complex hydrodynamic and sediment transport processes that operate in rivers, estuaries and the coastal ocean. The combined influence of these processes is used to explain and interpret the geomorphology of fluvial and coastal landscapes. |
