In October 2006, we launched our $1.1 billion Next G™ wireless broadband network, which is geographically the world's largest national 3GSM network, and delivers unequalled customer reach and speed across the country. The Next G™ network is more than 100 times bigger geographically than any other 3GSM network in Australia, delivering voice and broadband services to 99 per cent of the population.
Turbo-charged with High Speed Packet Access (HSPA), the Next G™ network is Australia's fastest national mobile network with peak network downlink speeds of 14.4Mbps and 1.9Mbps uplink. High speed Next G™ services can deliver information to your compatible mobile, PDA or laptop, within seconds, with download speeds averaging 550kbps to 3Mbps, and upload speeds averaging 300 kbps-1 Mbps.
3GSM 2100
Our existing 3GSM 2100 MHz network allows additional functionality such as video calling and higher speed data access within its coverage boundary whilst offering access to the GSM network and services outside of the 3G area. Our 3GSM 2100 MHz network sharing arrangement with Hutchinson covers over 50 per cent of the Australian population in a number of mainland capital cities.
2GSM
Our digital 2GSM network covers around 96 per cent of the Australian population. We have also improved depth of coverage in major cities, particularly in-building and underground coverage, as well as offering international roaming in more than 140 countries and 300 networks.
