I sat the selective exams this year and YES.
HENDERSONS IS DA BOMB. Okay, I'm just getting over enthusiastic here, but what I'm trying to say is if there is any tuition out there that can significantly higher someone's chances of getting into Melbourne High, Macrob, Nossal or Suzanne Cory, it most definately is Hendersons.
Their courses are specially made for this examination and have 6 classes for each of the 6 tests
Verbal Reasoning
Numerical Reasoning
Reading Comprehension
Maths
Creative Writing
Analytical
and ofcourse their 3 practice exams that are EXACTLY like the real thing!!!!
For each class you get a huge booklet and you're meant to try and finish as much of it as you can.
The questions in the booklet are like the ones on the exam.. it's like the examiners just swapped the letters and numbers around on the real thing.
The reason they're so good at what they do is because they ask every person that went to hendersons and sat the exam to give them feedback on what was on the tests.
They also have experienced teachers that talk you through the easiest and fastest ways to get an answer.
For each class you either have full day which is 6 hours with snack and lunch consisting of a-make-your-own-sandwich, fresh fruits and a juicebox. (The lunch is probably one of the best things about Hendersons)
or a half day which is obviously 3 hours with a snack.
The teachers are really nice there and understanding, you can just see how much they love their subjects.
I'm not sure if it's right but they say 1 in 5 people that go there get into their choice of school.
That being said, going to Hendersons won't GUARANTEE a seat into a selective school, you gotta work your butt of too (I should know... *shudder bad memories of stressin and stayin up and painstakingly going over the same problem over and over until the words somehow click in my brain..) but the same goes for any tuition.
This is what they had to say about their practice exam
"The purpose of the practice exam is to give an exam experience as close as possible to the real exam. This type of practice is known to improve a student's performance by a factor of 10 percent when compared to students who have not had any such experience. (Eysenck) For many winners that 10% makes the difference, but for the student who is a bit furthur down the list , that 10% would lift their position but still not take them into the winning bracket."
So, for it to make a bigger difference, you really have to give it your all :)
Just to show you how much it helps....
I know 7 people (including me) that went to hendersons.
5 people got into their selected school
3 got into Nossal
1 got into Macrob
and 1 got into Melbourne high.
Really work hard, the moment you get that email saying you got in.. it is all worth it... every. single. thing.
Just as a warning though- the test HAS gotten harder.
Everyone I know said the test was hard and trust me- the people I know are like Mini Einsteins in the making. Even someone who got all 6 superiors!!! (which is amazing since a lot of people didn't get even one)
Yeah.. in the end, it's not really the tuition, although it DOES help a lot, the thing that really matters in the end is:
-How hard you worked
- How much harder you're WILLING to work annnnd
- Luck
You have control over two out of three things on that list- make the most of it
I hope I've helped (and maybe inspired? haha jks. Me inspire? that's just funny) you :]
GOOD LUCKKK!!!
I know you can do it!
and I really hope you get into Melbourne High!! ~
- OH CRAP. I write A LOT. I'm sorry I made you read through all that!! hahah I'm just too evil >;) |
