几年级的孩子看这些书？没有在伟大的国度生活过的人看这些都会比较闷吧 ...
搞错了，其实是《Montana 1948》by Larry Watson。挺好看的一本书，大概一到两周能看完。
The story happened between the Hayden brothers. Frank was a well known war hero and a respected doctor, and Wesley, 12 yo boy David's father, was a sheriff of Montana.
David and their parents, Wesley and Gail, would never know the real Frank until Frank, as a doctor saw a patient, their housekeeper, an Indian girl, Marie Little Soldier. Marie was molested by Frank. They discovered, Frank, although having the prettiest white wife Gloria, was partial to Indian girls and had been doing whatever he wanted to his Indian girl patients.
Strong-willed Gail insisted all sins and crimes should be punished. While Wesley, as both Frank's brother and a sheriff, had to choose between family loyalty and justice. After Marie's death and David's witness that Frank was around their house, Wesley decided to do something.
As their family good friend, the next door neighbour, both David's powerful grandfather and Wesley's deputy, Len said, being a sheriff meant when to look and when to look away, but Wesley just hadn't quite got the hang of it.
Wesley had been trying to do what he could to both save Frank from embarrassment and fulfil the obligation of a sheriff.
But what happened thereafter in the summer of 1948, not only heart broke David's grandparents, but also resulted in his family's moving out of Montana...
