They said it was likely to grow much worse as work got underway on building more homes in the suburb to cater for 45,000 people in towers of up to 25 storeys. Originally Wentworth Point was planned for a population of just 11,000 in a series of low-rise blocks. They are now calling for a moratorium on extra development.

A number of locals living in Wentworth Point have complained to Fairfax Media that the traffic on the lone road on and off the peninsular regularly traps them in their homes, as they are unable to pull out of driveways.
The president of the residents' group Wentworth Point Community Central, Bronwyn Evans, said the public transport that currently existed was woefully inadequate, with buses taking long circular routes and the fast ferry only operating during off-peak times. A developer-funded bridge to be built to Rhodes – in exchange for permission to build more apartments – would take pedestrians, bicycles and buses but would not help if residents ever needed to use their own cars, she said.

The State Government has pledged to improve public transport in and around Wentworth Point, with Planning Minister Pru Goward promising $5 million for additional public transport, road improvements and new community infrastructure.
Mr Fitzgerald said those improvements would include a new public school in 2017, a new community centre, a shopping centre and a library. Parramatta Council was also considering a light rail link to the area.
