Who should register for PAYG withholding?
The basis for registering for Pay As You Go (PAYG) withholding depends on whether the entity is in business or not.
Entities carrying on a business:
An entity carrying on a business is entitled to register for an ABN. Where obligations to withhold payments arise, the entity needs to be registered for PAYG withholding to keep account of these obligations. Such obligations include payments to:
employees for salary and wages
contractors or sub-contractors under a voluntary agreement
labour hire workers
suppliers who have not provided an ABN
an investor in receipt of interest or dividends where a Tax File Number (TFN) has not been quoted
investment distributions, such as dividends, interest or royalties, which are sent overseas. |
