Scholarships

At Grammar, we are always looking for boys who are curious and keen to learn. If you love science or maths, languages and reading, and you are also keen on music, debating, drama or sport, then you should think very seriously about coming here. Although this is a private school which charges fees, you and your family should not let the fees put you off. Every year we set aside up to 24 places for boys of special intellectual talent and their fees are paid for them by the School.

Some of our scholarships are outright awards, others are means-tested. Means-tested scholarships are specifically set aside for candidates who would be unable to afford the normal tuition fees (currently $30,240 per annum). If you think you might qualify for a means-tested scholarship, then please tick the means-testing box at the bottom of the registration form. This will mean you are applying for ALL scholarships (outright and means-tested awards), thereby increasing your chances of a scholarship.

All candidates must take the scholarship examination and be prepared to attend an interview. Academic coaching is not necessary, in fact we strongly discourage it. Most boys who are awarded scholarships each year have not been coached.

The scholarship tests for boys entering Form I (Year 7) in 2015 will be held on SATURDAY, 8 MARCH, 2014. Please note the date of 1 March advertised in the Sun Herald on 27 October has been changed – the new date for the Scholarship Examination is Saturday, 8 March.

Applications will close on Friday, 28 February.

Registering for the Scholarship Examination

The scholarship examination for entry to Form I (Year 7), 2015 will be held at the School at 8.15am on Saturday, 8 March, 2014. Scholarships are only available for boys who are in Year 6 in 2014.

Please note that all candidates must sit the scholarship examination at the School on the set date. We regret that it will not be possible for boys to sit the test interstate or overseas, nor will any supplementary test be held for boys who missed the test due to illness or misadventure.

Music Scholarships

Each year we offer two full scholarships and one 50% means-tested scholarship to boys with outstanding musical talent entering Form I (Year 7). In making the awards, we take into consideration a boy’s performance on an instrument at audition, his results in the School’s Entrance Assessment and his character.

MUSICSCHOLARSHIPS-2015

Boys wishing to apply for a Music Scholarship will be required to attend an audition on either Friday14 or Monday 17 March 2014 , between 3.00-6.00pm. Selected candidates who are not currently enrolled at the Sydney Grammar Preparatory Schools will also be required to gain a satisfactory result in the School’s Entrance Examination, which will be heldon Wednesday, 7 May2014.
Auditions will be held only for boys who have already received a high pass in the following specified AMEB examinations or who have evidence of an equivalent standard:
Strings Violin,CelloGrade VI
Viola Grade V
Double Bass Grade III
Brass & Woodwind Grade IV
(with the exception of Bassoon, Oboe & French Horn for which one or two years’ tuition would be expected.)
Piano*Grade VII
Orchestral Percussion(By advicefrom the Chairman ofMusic)
*Applications from pianists will not be accepted unless they play a second instrument at the required level.
The enclosed forms should be completed and sent, along with copies of music examination reports/certificates, to:The Assistant to the Chairmanof Music
Sydney Grammar School, College Street, Darlinghurst NSW 10.
The closing date for registration is Friday, 7March 2014.

No entries will be accepted after this date.
Preference will be given to players of orchestral instruments.
The scholarship is worth up to 100% remittance of fees, renewable each year to Sixth Form and subject to review by the Trustees, the Headmaster and the Chairman of Music. The Scholarship also includes payment of Instrumental tuition if the boy chooses to learn at the School

离我家太远了， 就等着在网上围观吧



那个学校。。。 真的太迷你了。。。 话说， 他们的体育活动在哪里呢？教堂前面的地底下？

如果现在孩子还小，将来想试试音乐奖的，孩子可以考虑3年级开始学习上面几项，看上去好像要求不是太高。

孩子也不用从很小就开始练手指。小提琴的要求好高，而很多学校只会钢琴根本没机会。这两样都要早开始才有效果，如果引导不当，大人小孩都痛苦。 还不如弄个键盘玩玩， 等大一些再开始学吹奏乐器，学校乐队里也用得上。

我想那只是个入门标准吧，真正想考取可能都要至少8级往上了。 有认识的女孩子，钢琴大提琴都8级的才考到了别的私校音乐奖学金，还不是SG。 这个，真的很难。

而且文化课也要过哦

例子，要比学校要求的高很多才能考取。

乐器就是考8级也没用。很多音乐scholarship都是演奏级别的。

没错，像SG这种学校，要求更是高了，所以他们申请文件上写的要求都是没什么意义 。

朱版不是要围观牛娃虎妈嘛，所以我建议他去现场围观

除了钢琴和小提琴之类，其他的吹奏乐器，6年级的孩子要达到演奏级别的应该很少吧。。。

好歹人家也给了其他乐器相应级别的申请机会，不像钢琴，连申请机会都没有。所以对SG有兴趣的可以试试。

乐队里钢琴确实用不上。。。学校里只要有一个厉害的，就不需要添人手了。

其他乐器乐队里位置多，当然机会也多， 所以大家思路宽一点，不要再盯着钢琴了。除非孩子真的喜欢弹琴，家长稍加引导，孩子自己就能坚持，这样的还是应该继续。

BTW， knox 的音乐奖，弹钢琴的孩子也可以申请。

据说今年SG的音乐奖学金的candidates还有Amus level的。 10-12岁的孩子拉到这个级别不简单。AMEB的小提琴大纲比钢琴难

钢琴是比较好的入门乐器吧，对早期启蒙应该比较好，至少是两个声部，应该对靠乐理很有帮助，算不上白扔钱

应该是总共24个奖学金吧，好像不少哦。他们一个年级有多少学生啊？？？
