The Perth Cat Haven says it has been inundated with hundreds of kittens over the holiday period, with some left in an appalling condition.
Chandra Woodley from the Shenton Park facility said it was struggling to cope with more than 400 cats and kittens which are waiting to be adopted.
She said many were dumped in boxes, bins and suitcases, causing heat stress and injuries which can be fatal.
"We had a very sad scenario recently where we had kittens dropped off in a polystyrene esky with no holes punched in it, so there was no air, these cats were absolutely boiling, you could literally feel the heat coming off the box, they were saturated in sweat and terribly dehydrated," she said.
Ms Woodley said there was an urgent need for people to foster and adopt cats.
"We're now getting to the point where we are going to be, very shortly we're going to be full," she said.
"When we're full, very sadly we have to put down healthy cats and we just don't want to get to that point."
