This book describes Jane’s life from her childhood to her marriage to Mr Rochester.
The majority chapter was used to describe the two love experience with Mr Rochester and her cousin Mr River. It also shows reader hatred, forgiveness, friendship, and royalty.
I like the magnificent way the author use natural environment to show the figure inside movement and gradual evolvement of their thoughts. The winter gale, summer breeze, spring drizzle and autumn storm can all be used as an extended part of the people’s feeling.
Jane’s several key decisions in her life time seem too mysterious to me. The first one is her decision to leave her aunt to a boarding school. Her sound reasoning and clear logic is daunting.
The second one is she decided to put an advertisement on the local paper after her beloved teacher left the school, which led her to Mr Rochester’s governess. Her love to Mr Rochester appears odder to me. Her inside debate and argument about her love to Mr Rochester is more like a forty-year old instead of an eighteen –year old.
Her third decision to left Mr Rochester gave a new twist to the story. This led her to her cousin, who was the second lover in this story. Religion started playing a role in this second love story. Again Jane demonstrated her exceptional logic and coolness.
Fourth one came at a thundering night. She imaged that she heard a cry from Mr Rochester and went back to the side of Mr Rochester. Then she got married to Mr Rochester, a blind and disabled man then.
I read some critics saying the author tends to explore the definition of love in this book. I personally believe this made this book more like a philosophy book. She tried to bridge wonder, hope and belief of love, which I tend to disagree. I believe love should be about instinct, passion and fantasy.
