Eligibility for the Low Income Family Supplement
You may be eligible for the Low Income Family Supplement if, for the 2011-12 financial year:
•you or your partner (if you have one) received Family Tax Benefit for 39 weeks or more
•you and your partner (if you have one) have both lodged your tax return (if required) and have received your tax Notice of Assessment stating that your assessed tax payable is less than $300 each
•you and your partner’s (if you have one) combined adjusted taxable income was less than $60,000
•you didn’t receive another pension or benefit from the Australian Government for more than 39 weeks, and
•you or your partner (if you have one) have not received the Low Income Supplement.
You must also meet all other eligibility requirements.
Important note:
You should test your eligibility for the Low Income Family Supplement using the self-assessment tool prior to completing your claim.
Tax requirement
You meet the tax requirement if you and your partner (if you have one):
•have both lodged your tax return for the 2011–12 financial year and have received your tax Notice of Assessment stating that your assessed tax payable is less than $300 each, or
•are not required to lodge a tax return for the 2011–12 financial year.
Income requirement
You meet the income requirement if you and your partner’s (if you have one) combined adjusted taxable income is below $60,000.
Residency requirement
You meet the residency requirements if you are residing in Australia on the date you claim and, in the 2011-12 financial year, you were:
•an Australian Resident at all times
•in Australia for at least 39 weeks, and
•not subject to a newly arrived resident’s waiting period at any time.
Other requirements
You meet the other requirements if:
•you were not in prison and/or a psychiatric institution for more than 25 weeks in the 2011—12 financial year
•you are not in prison and/or a psychiatric institution when you claim, and
•you and your partner (if you have one) have not already received the Low Income Supplement or Low Income Family Supplement for the assessment year.
