好像除了律师不能做jury service，一些professional也会被排除

上次听广播说好像如果有prebooked overseas travel也可以免
而且不会查机票

I actually have booked holiday last time and I got exemption. But I have to go for summon this time. I could I talk with judge? Any other reason could be excused?

jury duty是公民的义务 而且是有pay的 雇主不可以因为jury duty 解雇你的

你这次不去 也会有下次的 因为你名字会一直在系统里面挂着

逃避jury duty 不是什么光彩的事

Too bad, LZ, that your English seems good enough to handle the situation. Someone I know was exempted from the services because his language ability is limited. But as you can ask for help and answer others in English this good, I don't think you can use this reason to get exempted

去吧，肯定要去的。然后填张表要求减短时间。我是去年11月份抽到的，要求去，我就说我工作很忙，然后我Xmas要去2周到holiday，如果现在我在这里做jury service的话，我看你就会miss deadline了。

然后他们就让我回去了。

其实他们不允许你减短时间的话，也会从group里面抽的，不是每个人都要去的。而且雇主肯定不能因为这个来解雇你的。

Your "begging" for help makes me uncomfortable. Anyways, here's the rules for NSW, and I assume all states are pretty similar:

Reasons for being excused

In terms of the Jury Amendment Act 2010, you may have 'good cause' to be excused if:

• jury service would cause undue hardship or serious inconvenience to you, your family or the public
• you have a disability that makes you unsuitable or incapable of effectively serving as a juror, without reasonable accommodation
• there is a conflict of interest or some other knowledge, acquaintance or friendship that you have which may result in your being perceived as lacking impartiality as a juror
• there is some other reason that would affect your ability to perform the functions of a juror.
  

The sheriff may also consider excusing you in other circumstances, including if:

• you are a sole trader or contractor
• you are a carer
• you are in an advanced stage of pregnancy or are having medical difficulties during your pregnancy
• you are an emergency service volunteer
• you are enrolled in education and need to attend lectures or exams; or are living outside your jury district to undertake studies
• you have a mental or physical impairment
• you are absent from NSW
• you have transport difficulties, such as unsuitable or unavailable public transport.

Personally, I think in your current situation, it's justified to ask for excuse because you are starting a new job. Everyone knows it's a sensitive time and any absence at this time can have negative consequences.

But for future jury duties, well, it's an obligation and whenever possible, I suggest you fulfil yours, like any other decent citizen would do.

你进入最后的陪审团了吗？我被抽到了，第一次由于出国没有去。结果刚回来就又叫我去了。去的时候很多人要求exemption，是4周的case。我想算了吧，估计这次不参加下次还要叫我来。结果最后其实他们还要再抽一次签，我没被抽到。但也算我参加了duty jury了，后来还给我寄了支票和信。信里说2-3年内不会再叫我去的。
