SYDNEY (MarketWatch) -- Boston-based Bain Capital on Sunday agreed to acquire Australian software vendor MYOB Ltd., from a consortium that includes buyout firm Archer Capital and investment firm HarbourVest Partners.

Financial terms weren't disclosed. The purchase by Bain of MYOB, which stands for Mind Your Own Business, comes after Reuters reported Sage Group PLC (SGPYY, SGE.LN) was close to buying the independent vendor for 1.3 billion Australian dollars ($1.4 billion) before running into last-minute trouble. With the purchase, Bain will hold a majority stake in the business-management software company alongside management who will continue to be shareholders in the company, according to a statement.

The purchase gives Bain more direct access to the fast-growing market for software products in Asia-Pacific. Archer Capital was advised by UBS and Bain Capital by Morgan Stanley.

Following the sale, Archer launched a A$1.25 billion capital-raising for its Fund 5. In a statement, the firm said it will be targeting Australian and international institutional investors.
