A KITTEN had its ears cruelly hacked off with scissors or a knife before being dumped on the roadside in a cardboard box.
Tiny tabby William was found in Sunday's searing heat in a box next to the road in Tinderbox, in Tasmania, along with his mother and two siblings, The Mercury reports.
Staff at the Hobart Cat Centre made the sickening discovery during a health inspection upon his arrival.
The other kittens, about seven weeks old, also have some nicks in their ears but they appeared to have escaped the worst of the cruel treatment.
General Manager Lyndell Whyte said the tops of William's ears had been cut clean off and judging by the smoothness of the wounds, it was likely it was done with scissors or possibly a knife.

Ms Whyte said William would have been in "a horrendous amount of pain" and it was likely he would have squealed in agony.
"Their ears are very sensitive. The skin is very thin and it has strong blood supply so it would have bled a lot.
"Cats ears have 32 muscles in their ears, which they need to make all of the little movements."
She said the injuries seemed to have been inflicted at least a week ago because they had almost completely healed.
"It is scary to think that there is someone out there who is prepared to inflict this sort of pain on a defenceless animal," Ms Whyte said. |
