THE Federal Government's controversial My School website appears to beexperiencing technical difficulties on its first morning of operation.
At 6am (AEDT) today, the site's search engine to find schools was not working.
The site became active at 1am (AEDT).
The My School websitelistsinformation about every Australian school, including national literacyand numeracy tests, and potentially identifies certain teachers.
The similar schools are grouped together on the basis of students' socio-economic status.
Teacherunions and some parents are worried myschool.edu.au will be used tocreate simplistic league tables that could stigmatise poor-performingschools.
But public schools in wealthy areas are outperformingsome of the nation's most expensive and prestigious private schools inreading and writing, according to a report in The Australian.

WhilePrime Minister Kevin Rudd's old school, Nambour High in Queensland isstruggling, with Year 9 results below the average of all schoolsnational literacy test results across Australia, so too was GeelongGrammar in Victoria, which charges nearly $30,000-a-year in Year 12fees and was once attended by Prince Charles.
It performedsubstantially below the average of similar Year 3 schools in spellingand was also below the average of similar schools in reading, grammarand numeracy.
Students at the James Ruse Agricultural High Schoolin Sydney, a selective public school for the "gifted" performedsubstantially above the average of similar schools and all schools inAustralia across all measures.
In WA, girls at the Presbyterian Ladies College at Peppermint Grove,where fees can top $18,000-a-year, were below the average of similarschools in Year 5 reading, spelling and grammar and substantially belowaverage in Year 5 and Year 7 numeracy.
However, the school remained above the average of all schools across Australia.
At the Cranbrook Schoolin NSW, where media heir James Packer once attended, students werebelow the average of similar schools in Year 9 results for reading,writing, spelling and grammar. However they were substantially abovethe average across all schools in Australia.
In Adelaide, students attending the prestigious Prince Alfred College,which educated cricketing greats the Chappell brothers, Year 3 and Year5 results were below the average of similar schools in reading.
Year 5 test results were also below the average of similar schools in writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
At St Peters Collegeboys school in Adelaide, which boasts of "three Nobel laureates, fortyone Rhodes scholars and eight state premiers", results were below theaverage of similar schools in writing, spelling and grammar for Year 3NAPLAN results.
