ATO are issuing letters to businesses (cash) for reporting unusually low profit in the past years. these letters are not your generic letters, they are to be taken very seriously.
If any businesses have received such letters, please review your past records carefully or contact your accountant asap. start up businesses are not free from audits which is a common misunderstanding among business runners.

那些个小生意都是现金交易，把钱都藏着埋着，反正澳洲币耐腐蚀，能查出个鸟来？
话说回来，生意越大，逃的税越大，天下哪儿都一样。

its up to the business owner to prove what they have lodged is correct, not the ATO. people are kidding themselves if they think they can be asset rich and not pay any taxes. The ATO doesn't have to find the cash people have hidden to penalise them.

The sad thing is, some people who have pushed the limits for years, not paying any taxes. have remained poor, because they didn't want to draw attention. now what is the point in that? while others, who did invest and became more wealthy, ultimately draw attention to themselves because they can not justify where the money come from.
