Learner drivers must have a supervising driver seated beside them at all times while driving.
The supervising driver must have:
a current, full (not probationary) Australian driver licence that authorises the person to drive the type of vehicle that is being driving by the learner, or
a current, full (not probationary or provisional) overseas driver licence that authorises them to drive the type of vehicle being driven by the learner.
When supervising a learner driver, all supervising drivers must:
carry their driver licence with them
have a 0.05 Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) requirement (or zero BAC if they’re an authorised driving instructor, or have a ‘Z’ condition on their licence)
not drink alcohol while supervising
complete their details in the 'List for Supervising Drivers' and 'Declaration of Completion' in the learner driver’s Learner Log Book.
A supervising driver with licence restrictions such as hand controls, automatic transmission, alcohol interlock etc is not prohibited from being the supervising driver for a learner driver. The supervising driver must not contravene any provision of the restriction.
