Places to look for squid:
around wharves, jetties, moorings and bridge pylons, squid like the cover provided by these structures.wharves etc that are lit up at night are especially good.
Near reef areas, especially if they have a good growth of kelp and plenty of bait fish(yellowtail etc)
Where to find squid:
Squid occur along the coast in all australian states, in the tidal waters of deep estuaries and bays, off the ocean rocks and all round offshore reefs.
Squid can sometimes be taken right through the day, but the most consistent catches are taken at dawn, dusk or after dark.
Times and tides:
Squid can turn up at any time of the year and the good thing is ,they often show up when other types of fishing are quiet. For example, very calm, clear water conditions in the estuaries and around the rocks often produce very poor fishing, but squid like this kind of water.
In most places squid can turn up at any stage of the tide, although the rising to full tide is often better in shallower areas.
