Why is CPA Program changing?
CPA Australia conducts a review of CPA Program every three years to ensure that the program is meeting the needs and expectations of our members, employers and the accounting profession. This is part of continuous improvement to ensure that CPA Australia is realising our vision to be the global professional accountancy designation for strategic business leaders.
The syllabus for CPA Program will focus on strategy, leadership and international business. The program continues to address the needs of employers and leads to a highly valued and global designation. Its content is globally relevant, with a focus on providing flexibility of learning and delivery modes.
I want to become a member and enrol in CPA Program. What am I required to do as CPA Program is changing?
Membership requirements will not change for semester 2, 2009 entry, other than CPA Australia accepting recognised professional bodies as meeting the degree requirement. For further information read Professional accounting qualifications recognised by CPA Australia.
CPA Program structure will remain as a six postgraduate-level distance learning program with four compulsory segments and a choice of two (from four) electives. New candidates will commence the new CPA Program from semester 2, 2009.
I am an associate member, but have not yet started CPA Program.
What does the change mean for me? New candidates will commence the new CPA Program from semester 2, 2009. All new candidates will complete the new syllabus that comprises of four compulsory segments and two elective segments from a choice of four segments. We will be offering two of the compulsory units and three of the elective units of the changed program in semester 2, 2009:
Compulsories:
* Financial Reporting and Disclosure
* Strategic Management Accounting
Electives:
* Financial Risk Management
* Taxation*
* Assurance and Auditing Services*
* Mandatory if not completed prior to CPA Program
Why do I have only five segment choices for semester 2, 2009?
As we have done previously, CPA Australia will be making some changes to existing segments. In order to ensure that you will receive the best education in CPA Program only those segments with minimal changes will be available for semester 2, 2009.
I have already started CPA Program. What do the changes mean for me?
The current program will continue for you, however there is a transition period during 2009 - 2010 to move to the new syllabus. During the 2009 - 2010 period some segments will be changing and other segments will no longer be offered. By 2011 only the eight segments that form the new content framework for the professional stage will be available.
Compulsory segments:
You need to make sure that you will complete, as the compulsory segments, both Reporting and Professional Practice and Corporate Governance and before 2011. With regards to Business Strategy and Leadership, current candidates can complete this as their capstone segment until semester 2, 2010 when the capstone will change to our new segment Global Strategy and Leadership.
Elective segments:
For semester 2, 2009 your choices are exactly the same as they previously were. We will phase out certain elective segments from semester 1, 2010. Please consider this when planning your studies. |
