MORE home builders are facing legal action over disintegrating homes built on unstable foundations.
A day after one of Australia’s largest residential builders lost a fight against an order that it pay to demolish and rebuild a couple’s home, the Herald Sun can reveal more than 15 other builders are facing similar claims.
Legal firm Slater and Gordon is preparing damages claims on behalf of some 40 other home owners involving both large volume building companies and smaller builders – including about a dozen against Metricon Homes.
“Some of these cases are under investigation and others may be heading to VCAT in the near future,” Slater and Gordon associate Robert Auricchio said.
And since yesterday’s Court of Appeal win Mr Auricchio said the firm had received enquiries from other homeowners who have complained of similar defects to their homes.
“The firm will review these claims and advise the homeowners of their legal options,” he said.
