I knew nothing about photography whatsoever, but being this the special lens that it is, I took out a second mortgage on my home and - what the hell, I bought it. I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but it comes with Enhanced Delivery, which means that representatives from a specialty shipping service will deliver it to any room you choose, unpack it, inspect it for damage. they will also dispose of all packaging material, unless you choose to keep it. since I live in a cozy however small studio, I asked my parents if they lend me their barn for a day, so I could have this beauty delivered. the shipping guys also brought a truck to have the packaging disposed of, which proved to be insufficient, so they rented an additional one.
however, what I didn't know at that point was that I had to invest much more into my new lens. first, I came to realize that I needed a camera, so I went out and bought one. then a reinforced steel tripod. then a crane. then a trolley. then a storage warehouse. and so on.
6 months and three additional loans later, I finally had a decent set of equipment. and boy, was it worth it.
I took my new set out for the first time at night and started taking pictures of the solar system and beyond. I am sure you are all aware of the infamous white dot on Pluto? my work, even though NASA credited the Hubble, out of pride. how about the photo of the imminent colliding galaxies one hundred and thirty million light years from Earth? also my work.
my next endeavor is to have a special filter built for my lens (which takes another 6 months and a full factory in Sweden) and photograph the core of the sun. this way, with my modest help, the scientific community will be able to better estimate how long till the sun runs out of hydrogen...... |
