I went to Medibank last Saturday. I was about to join them on that day. But I found something I thought was actually wrong. I don't know whether I am the only person who got the wrong idea. Just post here to let everyone know.

Medibank has hospital cover and extras cover. I thought any one of this can save me from the 1% medicare levy. However, that's wrong. If you buy extras only, you still need to pay that 1%. The truth is, only hospital cover can save 1% for you.

Allthough the most needed health insurance for us is the extras(since we are young), the tax benifit only comes from hospital cover.

BTW, anyone know which health fund vendor has promotion on waiting period?

It is very rare to have hospital cover products without waiting periods. If you are buying hospital cover mainly for tax purpose, the waiting period shouldn’t matter much.
