China's CDB vice-president detained: sources

BEIJING -- Wang Yi, a China Development Bank (CDB) vice president, is under investigation for suspected security market irregularities, two sources familiar with the matter have said.
Mr Yi, who served as a vice-chairman of China's securities watchdog from 1995 to 1999, was detained for questioning on Tuesday by the Communist party's discipline body, the sources told Reuters.
A spokeswoman for CDB, a policy lender that makes loans explicitly to promote government goals, did not answer calls seeking comment.
Caijing magazine, which earlier reported the detention on its Web site, said Mr Yi had been active in the stock market, using extensive connections he made when he was at the China Securities Regulatory Commission.
Caijing said investigators were looking at the circumstances surrounding the listing last year of Pacific Securities.
CDB, which bought a stake in British bank Barclays last year, lists Mr Yi on its Web site as one of four vice-presidents.
"People have read the Caijing report and the rumour has been around for weeks," a junior employee at the bank said. "But there's been no news at all on the bank's internal email system."
Mr Yi, who graduated from prestigious Peking University, is the composer of a symphony called Ode to China, which received widespread recognition in the official press.
