It is necessary for all school-aged kids to know about and how to respond to it. I have experienced severe when I was in middle school because the kids weren't separated by their academic achievements and everybody had to take pretty much all similar classes, so I had to deal with alot of low-class kids everyday. They pretty much bullied every Asian kids who had good grades. When bullying happened, especially physical ones, we pretty much just dragged witnesses (who were almost always Asians, by the way) and went to the counselors to report the situations. The school usually suspended those kids in cases of physical bullies if there weren't any discrepancies in the witnesses' statements. Also, the school nowadays treat very seriously. So if your daughter can get witnesses to support her, she can report both racial remark and physical bullies all at once, and that kid can get in serious trouble (at least in middle school and high school he will). Also, if your daughter gets bullied or hit in school, do not fight back immediately because many school districts don't even bother to investigate in the fight since self-defense on campus is very very hard to prove. They basically just punish both parties all together. So if she gets into a fight, she can potentially be suspended also, even if she didn't start it Final advice: drag as many witnesses as possible and DO NOT get in to fights!
