The four US tourists were enjoying their feast at the Fjallsárlón glacial lagoon in East Iceland, a popular spot for travellers. They had even set up a table and chairs. But it wasn't long before the section of ice they were sitting on broke and started drifting away due to a sudden gust of wind. Luckily, one of the tourists managed to get off the ice and call for help, the Iceland Review reported. They were about 10 metres off the shore when first found by rescuers. A photo from the scene shows three of the unidentified tourists sitting calmly on their chairs waiting to be saved. "When we arrived it was quite comical to see them sitting on chairs and with a table on an iceberg," Páll Sigurður Vignisson of the Hornafjörður rescue team, said. "Yes, the dinner was over." He also warned of the danger of the situation. "They could have been in danger. We never know how ice will behave; if it rolls over and when - we just don’t know." |
