Course details
Name:        Vertebrate pest management
Description:        The Vertebrate Pest Management Course is a week long, intensive event that provides participants with the capacity to develop a pest management action plan. Participants experience pest animal monitoring and trapping techniques as well as receiving presentations on pest biology and ecology (the animal's characteristics, behaviour and effective control techniques).
Cost:        $1,515, includes GST.
Dates and Locations for 2013        TBA
Course aims:        To provide high quality training for those implementing vertebrate pest management for agricultural protection and conservation.
Learning outcomes:       
Describe the process to define the pest problem in a local area,
Describe the process of developing an action plan for the management of target pests in a local area,
Understand effective surveying techniques to measure pest animal abundance,
Identify methods for live trapping and holding, releasing or humanely destroying animals.
Length:        5 days
Course program/structure:       
During the week participants work individually and in groups to broaden their understanding of vertebrate pest management in a theoretical and practical sense through case studies, verbal and practical instruction and on-ground activities.

Resources and method of delivery:         Participants receive course notes and manual.
Participants receive a variety of resources including course manual, vertebrate pest animal monitoring books and assessment material. This course is delivered using mostly indoor instruction, complimented by outdoor activities.
