They are seeking Administrators to work in a number of Data Centres which they manage. The preferred method of engagement is to offer the successful applicants a short-term contract with the ability to convert to a full-time role upon meeting agreed performance criteria. The Roles BACKUP & RECOVERY ADMINISTRATORS The successful candidate will manage, monitor and support the Backup Infrastructure for the xxxx and provide assistance monitoring the xxxx SAN and Network Attached Storage (NAS) systems. Principal responsibilities To work with the Backup and Disaster Recovery Officer to develop, manage and monitor the backup regime for xxxx applications. Undertake Backup and Recovery activities in addition to conducting regular testing of these processes. Monitor and administer backup regimes across the xxxx. Assist with the development and implementation of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery solutions for xxxx systems. Monitor and maintain adequate resources in the DATA Centre for Backup, Recovery, Capacity and DR planning. Selection criteria Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Enterprise Backup, Restore and Disaster Recovery procedures across various operating systems within a TCP/IP and Fibre Channel SAN environment. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain relevant procedural documentation within a quality management system. Demonstrated high level analytical, problem solving and research skills in dealing with complex information system issues. Sound written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively liaise with stakeholders and to document technical issues. Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a member of a small team. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines within a demanding environment. STORAGE ADMINISTRATOR Note: 1. Storage = disk, tape, SAN, and storage software 2. Percentage after each task is approximatley timed 1. Manage current storage environment (20%) Resolve any storage shortages Alert and resolve any performance issues and notify end-users Insure that data is available to all applications 2. Application support (20%) Work with application developers to determine storage requirements Work with existing programmers, DBAs to optimize storage 3. Backup (15%) Maintain proper backup schedule Restore and recover data as requested Facilitate off-site storage of tape 4. Monitor current storage environment (15%) Usage Performance Availability Reporting on status 5. Capacity planning (10%) Forecast storage growth Determine allocation of different storage types 6. Evaluations (10%) Provide input from vendor proposals Due diligence on new software Drive vendor testing 7. New installs (10%) Responsible for planning and execution of the storage installation Perform any host-level tasks need to access new storage Example Senior Storage Administrator - Finance - London - NetApp and/or EMC A leading, global buy-side financial institution requires an experienced individual to join as Senior Storage Administrator. Based in London, you will be responsible for the daily running of this dynamic storage environment, carrying out generic storage administration tasks, storage software & hardware support, storage device configuration, support of daily backups, monitoring of storage devices, performance tuning & troubleshooting. As a senior member of the team you will mentor more junior members & heavily contribute to the strategic direction of this area of the business moving forward. You will have in depth knowledge of NetApp and/or EMC Storage devices & associated software, from medium-large production environments. You should have a systems administration background, be familiar with NFS & CIFS protocols and IP replication & snapshot technologies. Experience of scripting (shell & perl), NBU, NDMP, Overland ATLs, StorageTek ATLs, NT and/or Unix administration is a plus.
