In 1893 Mosman became a municipality and by 1900 was a vibrant active community which quickly gained its own identity with numerous groups, societies and clubs established. The Spit Amateur Swimming Club established in 1917 at the Spit Baths, Middle Harbour was one such club. Over the last century members such as Forbes Carlile, Murray Rose, Sam Herford, Gergaynia Beckett, Brett Hill, Sue Knight and Noeline Maclean are champions who helped change the face of swimming in Australia. The exhibition includes personal memorabilia, medals, trophies, costumes, clothing, pennants and programs dating back to the 1920s. Also on view are photographs, ephemera and records from the Spit Amateur Swimming Club archives and the Mosman Local Studies Collection. This promises to be a wonderful commemoration. The exhibition is part of Australian Heritage Festival 2017. https://whatson.cityofsydney.nsw ... istance-at-the-spit |
