phrases: Over the moon

2008-9-12 10:43| 发布者: xingbu | 查看: 1816| 原文链接

Over the Moon: very very happy, very delighted.

it comes from a well-known 16th century nursery rhyme Hey diddle, diddle:

Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon.
The little dog laughed to see such fun
And the dish ran away with the spoon!

I also heard someone say it in "Over the Sixth Moon", but for some reason I can't find and explanation about why using "the sixth moon" here. Hope anyone have ever heard about it please explain here.

I was over the moon when I heard my grandpa's visa application has been approved!

I would be over the sixth moon if I won this week’s 30 million tattslotto.
