If you don't know what "G'day" or "mate" mean then it's time to learn it now! G'day is the short hand for "Good day". It's used as a greeting. Just like hello. As you might have guessed, G'day is for saying hello during the day. Mateship is a very important part of the Australian culture. A mate is a good friend, like a brother. As in "Bulaohu is a mate of Gandu's." Generally "mate" is used to address male only. But occasionally you hear people addressing female as "mate". They are likely to be lesbians... So "G'day mate!" means "兄弟你好！"。 Sometimes when you can't recall who you are greeting, just say "G'day mate!".  |
