Weekly Mayor's Message - Clr Andrew Jefferies - 13 July 2015 Thanks For Protecting Our Shire Last week I attended the farewell for Peter Welsh, the longest serving firefighter in NSW. Mr Welsh was the station office at Castle Hill and had spent more than 48 years as a firefighter. Firefighters hold a special place in the heart of just about every resident. They regularly top the list of the most trusted professions – and is it any wonder why? Firefighters go to work every day knowing that they could be walking into potentially life-threatening situations where they will have to put their own well-being on the line to protect others. It takes a special kind of person to put their hand up for a job like that, and it takes extraordinary dedication to continue to do it for 48 years. On behalf of Hills Shire Councillors, staff and the entire Hills community, thank you for working so hard to protect residents of The Hills and NSW for so long. I wish you all the best in the next chapter of your life. |
