http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/07/24/2313619.htm No short-term fix for high rent: Tenants Union Posted 3 hours 33 minutes ago The Tenants Union of Queensland says there is no short-term fix for high rental prices. Data compiled by Australian Property Monitors shows house rent in Brisbane has jumped 13 per cent over the past year while the units had a 3 per cent increase. The Union's coordinator, Penny Carr, says a bigger supply of houses and units will help lower prices. "The Commonwealth Government do have their national rental affordability scheme which is meant to bring supply at an affordable rate into the market, but these things won't happen overnight," she said. "I think renters will be struggling for some time to come." |
