ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT, ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
To provide operational and functional support to the Financial Controller with specific responsibility for processing payments to customers and suppliers and other funding transactions, as well as general accounting responsibilities, for the Australian and New Zealand group and joint venture companies.
The core focus is on accounts payable tasks with scope to broaden the role significantly and become involved is all facets of the Finance team
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Process payments using Westpac Corporate Online banking software including direct debits and fund transfers.
• Timely processing and payment of supplier invoices including accurate coding to appropriate P&L or Balance Sheet accounts (accounting system Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains).
• Timely processing and payment of refunds to customers.
• Daily cash flow management for all entities.
• Treasury repayments for all entities.
• Liaise with Rabobank staff for foreign currency payments.
• Filing of all payables transactions.
• Process American Express Corporate card expense forms received each month.
• Populate journal template to adjust for specific settlement components to ensure clearing accounts match.
• Liaising with Sales/Operations staff on vendor queries.
• Take responsibility for several balance sheet reconciliations done monthly.
• Look at continual improvement of processes, procedures & controls.
• Provide assistance to the Financial Controller and other team members as required.
KEY SKILL AREAS
Business Knowledge
• Past experience in banking/financial services or other high volume environment preferred. Leasing experience would be advantageous but not essential.
Interpersonal Skills
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Customer Focus
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external clients.
Technical & Specialist Skills
• Accounts Payable experience
• Microsoft Great Plains system knowledge advantageous
• Excel spreadsheet skills, intermediate level (e.g. vlookup, pivot tables)
• Bookkeeping skills and understanding of balance sheet reconciliations preferred
Planning and Organisation
• Attention to detail
• Organised
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Able to work with limited supervision
• Able to prioritise
Qualifications & Experience
• Experience in a similar role highly desirable
• Experience in financial service/ high volume transaction environment desirable
• Grasp of basic accounting concepts
• Relevant tertiary qualification
