The Age: Rival protests before Olympic torch relay

Seven protesters have been arrested after confrontations between pro-China and pro-Tibet protesters as tensions rose ahead of the start of the Olympic Torch relay in Canberra.

Six of the people arrested this morning remain in custody, with one person detained then released, ACT police said

Charges will be laid against three males protesters under the Major Events Security Act, a police spokeswoman said.

Two were believed to be Chinese supporters, and one was believed to be pro-Tibet, she said.
